We want to create project-based and affordable data science curriculum for anyone to use and provide affordable options to learn from top data professionals.
At the age of 8, David began learning the BASIC programming language while living in the outskirts of Alaska. Although access to computer hardware was challenging growing up with limited access to educational opportunities, he maintained his interest in programming through second-hand computers his dad brought home. He studied music performance but found the beginning of his career building a small software and consulting company in the late 90's. David’s career spans over 20 years including many startups as a lead engineer, building scalable data services from prototype to production.
During his time at Sony/Gracenote, leading the development of a handful of prototypes were featured multiple years in the Consumer Electronics Show, spanning problems with recommender systems, content classification, and profiling type problems. More recently, David was a data scientist at a YC backed dating app company researching and building scalable recommendation pipelines. David was one of the founding instructors at General Assembly as a Global Data Science Instructor, where he helped architect the first version of the data science immersive curriculum and pilot many new programs developed internally. Regularly delivering lectures in a hybrid format classroom on topics ranging from engineering, statistics, and machine learning. David is an experienced instructor who has taught thousands of students in person and online.
David has been working independently since the beginning of the pandemic building a team around him as a consultantand advisor. His work includes advising startups across the board, but specializes in high growth companies that are developing AI based solutions such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), image recognition, and more. He has also worked with other companies looking to enhance their own internal data science teams by training and mentoring employees.
He founded Dose of Data with the vision to re-create a data science curriculum for anyone to use based on the principles that make high priced coding bootcamps so successful. By offering interactive courses delivered through video, webinars, and live office hours, his goal is to empower anyone with the tools they need to build powerful data products or find careers in the world job market.
We believe in the power of data. We embrace that it's not only available but necessary to create great products. We believe in the importance of education. It should be accessible to everyone.
The past shouldn't constrain the future. Implementing new ideas and technology should lead our strategy.
We build our materials with open source standards for maximum interoperability.
Our processes and references should be transparent with an emphasis on improvement at all levels.
A person with a computer should have access to opportunities to learn foundational knowledge regardless of background.
